The pre-enrolment period is now open until June 2024 for a new edition of the Master's in Genetics and Genomics, organized by the University of Barcelona with the collaboration of CNAG, the largest center in genomic analysis in Spain and a world reference.
The course is aimed at students who wish to develop their careers in the areas such as genomic medicine and personalized diagnosis for health, clinical and research institutions, or research studies of development, stem cell research, regeneration, and evolution. The master's program furnishes the necessary skills and knowledge for pursuing advanced studies at the doctoral level, including a theorical and practical program. In addition, during the course, the students have the chance to visit CNAG infrastructures and our latest state-of-the-art genomic technologies, along with our high capacity Data Processing Center. A hands-on training allows students to experience firsthand how work is conducted at a top-tier international center, and the various career opportunities that the master's degree can offer.
The faculty overseeing this master's program has extensive research expertise in genetics and genomics, often leading cutting-edge research groups in these areas. As a result, students benefit from comprehensive and current training grounded in the latest advancements in genomics and genetics. This represents one of the most valuable contributions from CNAG, enriching the program with the participation of highly talented and experienced professionals who are actively leading genomics studies and coordinating challenging projects in various areas. Every year, CNAG conducts master classes led by first-rate professionals, such as: Ivo Gut (PhD, CNAG’S Director), Sergi Beltran (PhD, Head of the Sequencing Unit), Marta Gut (PhD, Head of the Sequencing Unit), Leslie Matalong (PhD, Clinical Genomics Manager at Human Genetic), Genís Parra (PhD, Data Analytics at Variant Calling and Analyis ), Marc A. Martí (Structural Genomics Group Leader) and Simon Heath (Bioinformatics Development and Statistical Genomics Team Leader).
Moreover, the master’s degree program enables students to conduct their master's thesis in a research laboratory, typically for a period ranging from five to seven months. Many students have already completed their master’s thesis at CNAG, which granted them a unique opportunity to engage in real genomic projects and work closely with our extensive network of partners. By witnessing how our center contributes to people´s health and quality of life, students gain valuable insights into the impact of our work and the wide range of possibilities they can achieve in their future careers in the field of genomics.
